Whether it's taking a daily ritual from expected to extraordinary or discovering the wonderment and beauty of anew travel destination, J.R. McCabe elevates the everyday with timeless taste and comfortable confidence.
My work from home style is simple — comfortable and casual pieces that make me feel confident. I’ve worked from home for many years during the various stages of my career and I’ve found the following three wardrobe tricks keep me on task and super productive.
#1 Be Comfortable
Wearing more formal work attire like a skirt suit or trouser and blouse simply doesn’t work at home. Home is a place of ease and comfort so walking around your house in a suit and heels just doesn’t feel right. Don’t make the mistake of going in the completely other direction either — pajamas will keep you stuck in a malaise and never really ready to tackle the day. Choose something that makes you feel awake and ready for the day without too much structure. Soft fabrics, a familiar dress, or broken-in jeans are all great options. When you’re comfortable you are more at ease and when you’re more at ease your thoughts, ideas, and work product will flow better.
#2 Stay Casual
I love the interplay between personal and professional life when I’m working from home. The sound of the gentle rain on my window that I would never notice if I were in an office. The treat of having my kitchen just steps away to make another cup of tea or grab a bit of chocolate. The coziness of being able to grab the living room throw and wrap it around my lap or have classical music on in the background. All these things create space for less pretension and more authenticity. Staying casual allows you to stay rooted in your unique talents and creative process which invites deeper productivity and more original thinking.
#3 Feel Confident
I’ll be candid. Motivation and discipline are my strong suits. But that doesn’t mean that distraction or doubts don’t creep in. When I work from home I surround myself with that which makes me feel confident — a button-down shirt, my favorite German pens, my Smythson agenda, Chanel lip gloss — whatever it may be. When you look good you feel good. When you have your favorite tools you can be a master artisan. When you are armed with all that makes you feel grounded you’re able to shoot for the stars. 🌟
