Whether it's taking a daily ritual from expected to extraordinary or discovering the wonderment and beauty of anew travel destination, J.R. McCabe elevates the everyday with timeless taste and comfortable confidence.
Whether setting the table for a holiday dinner or a casual supper with friends — here are my five tips for elegant minimalist dining:
#1 A Strong Foundation
Earthy, practical, strong, and calming — restored wood is the perfect foundation for minimalist dining. With such a powerful presence all it needs is a soft cloth runner.
#2 Muted Colors that Compliment
Food should always be the star of any holiday dinner — so I keep dinnerware subtle in muted colors that compliment the neutral foundation. Hues of cream, beige, grey all work well. For an added whimsical touch, tie napkins with gold and white ribbon.
#3 Flatware that Sparkles
A neutral table welcomes flatware that sparkles either with a unique tone or artistic design. You can’t go wrong with classic gold in a modern cut.
#4 Soft Flowers
Flowers should be fragrant and fanned, not scented or stiff. For an arrangement that is pleasing to all the senses chose white peonies, roses, and ranunculus decorated with earthy greens.
#5 Timeless Illumination
A minimalist table isn’t complete without beeswax tapers for illumination. Beeswax candles have been used since ancient Egypt and their intimate and classic nature has carried through the centuries to represent nobility and holiness.
